| | I came across something I liked; Three enemies of freedom are: 1) Ignorance 2) Tyranny 3) Fanaticism
Seemed applicable. I have abstained from commenting since the election. I am not really sure why. You can imagine that I am pleased with the outcome. It is exciting that Obama will be the first President that Emma remembers. It has made me more relaxed about the world outside of my "box". I have been thinking about the election in a historical context. I really feel a weight has been lifted off of the shoulders of our nation. Since that November day in Dallas so many years ago, in addition to a leader, there was an innocence taken away from our nation. A cynicism was born that grew more mature through the assassinations of RFK and MLK. It started to form a voice through Vietnam and found that it could shout at President Nixon. It grew greedy and suspicious of government through the 80s and 90s. It was beaten into a quiet tension with 9/11 and President Bush's domestic policies and attitude toward the populous and the world. There is now a chance to rise above our recent history. With Obama, it seems we have someone who is inherently above all of the things that have breed complacency and ill-will towards our government. He has offered to take the weight off of the countries shoulders and take it upon his. His burden will be great. The expectations will be greater. I wish him and his family the best of luck. I give him the most important things a citizen can give, my vote and trust.
